Buchtar Tabuni, the West Papua Council's chairman, was detained as a result of an alleged conspiracy.

Buchtar Tabuni, the chairman of the West Papua Council, was taken into custody by the police. The former KNPB head of the West Papua National Committee was taken into custody for attacking police.

Pol Mathius D. Fahiri, the chief inspector general of the Papua New Guinea Police, said this. He said that security personnel who were monitoring and moving about the warehouse were attacked and ganged up on by Buchtar Tabuni and others.

The event took place on Thursday, March 24, 2022. The combined security forces were on patrol in the Wolker Camp region, the Heram District, and Jayapura when they came close to Buchtar Tabuni's home, where he was at the time assembling with a number of teenagers.

The Provisional Government of West Papua United Liberation Movement for West Papua, a group of young people, had previously been reported to the government as holding a meeting in Buchtar Tabuni's home (ULMWP).

The mobile patrols were conducted, according to the Papua Police Chief, in anticipation of disturbances in community order and security. At that time, members went to Buchtar Tabuni's home and begged him not to have meetings or gatherings. When his request was ignored, they attacked Jayapura Police officers, leading to Buchtar Tabuni and his supporters being taken into custody.

The Papuan police chief stated that the Jayapura City Police were now in charge of the matter, which is still under investigation.

To free Papua from the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia, a group known as the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP) or simply the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (NKRI) fights.
